The secret to keeping your eyelash extensions looking fresh and lasting well is giving them the TLC they deserve. Have you ever wondered why some eyelash extensions last longer than others?
That’s partly down to the skill of your technician in placing your lashes, but its also about aftercare and there are a few things you can do at home to make eyelash extensions last longer. Here are my top tips to keep your eyelash extensions looking full and fluttery.
Steer clear of oil-based makeup removers
Oil can affect the bonds of your eyelash extensions so choose an oil-free eye makeup remover or cleansing solution and avoid using your facial moisturiser and oils near your eyes. Limelifes Make off remover spray is perfect for this – the oil-free, simple, 3 ingredient formula removes eye makeup in seconds.
Sleep on your back.
This might be hard if you are used to sleeping on your front, but sleeping with your face pushed into a pillow will cause more wear and tear of your lashes. It can also misshape them and cause your extensions to fall out quicker.
Comb them
After your eyelash extension appointment your lash technician will give you a clean spoolie to take home with you. You don’t want to damage your new lashes by brushing them too regularly, but brushing your eyelash extensions through once or twice a day will stop them from criss-crossing and looking tangled.
Avoid water and steam for the first 24 hours
This is the most important thing you can do to preserve your lashes, it gives the glue time to set properly. After this time they can be wet and washed (gently) daily to avoid bacteria build-up. Take care when drying your eyelash extensions, don’t pull and tug, just blot them gently.
Avoid Mascara
With voluminous, fluttery lashes you won’t need to wear mascara. It’s also harder to remove your eye makeup with your lashes attached, so avoid applying mascara altogether. Eyeliner can also be tricky to remove when you have extensions, to avoid damaging rubbing the lashes apply it a millimetre above the lash line instead of touching the lashes and remove using a cotton bud and micellar water.
Resist the temptation to play with them!
Your new lash extensions are so fluffy and fluttery you might just want to touch them all the time, but don’t! If an extension starts to look out of place avoid twisting or pulling it to try to remove it, you’ll risk losing your natural lashes. I offer a 7 day check of your lashes to make sure everything is sitting well and feels natural – with quality, professional lash extensions you will not be able to feel the lashes and they won’t obstruct your vision, so the temptation to play won’t be there.
